Hop-On Hop-Off Boat

Since Stockholm is an archipelago with more that 24,000 islands, islets, and rocks in the water, a delightful way to experience Stockholm is from the water.

A good choice is a boat that you can hop-on and hop-off. On this type of boat, you can get off and on at as many of the bridges as you’d like, or you can just remain on board and enjoy the ride. If you stay on the boat, the ride lasts about an hour. One ticket is good for 24 hours, and there is narration on board the boat so that you don’t miss anything important.

First, you can see the Royal Palace, where everyone can view the changing of the guard. This happens year round and is wonderful to see in person.

At the next terminal, Nybroviken you can take a connecting boat to Fjäderholmarna and Djurgården, the important shopping districts.

For those more interested in history than shopping, the Hop-on, Hop-off boat goes to the Vasa Museum and the Nordiska Museum, then Skepssholmen, which has the Museum of Art.

Other stops include the amusement park in Scandinavia, Gröna Lund, and Skansen, which has many traditional buildings and even wild animals.

There are also stops for Cruise Berth / Viking Line and Gamla Stan, where there are many historic buildings built during the 17th and 18th century.

A Hop-On, Hop-Off Boat Ride can also be combined with a Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Tour, which is a sightseeing tour all around Stockholm on double-decker buses with open tops. See either company for tickets to both.
