Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) was established on Sep 5, 1979 with the objective to operate public railways which belonged to the FEVE in Catalonia. It is the first public company which was created by the restored autonomous government. FGC provides and aids improved mobility in and around the state of Catalonia, and it offers visitors as well as locals affordable leisure services.

FGC manages the Railway Network that consists of Llobregat-Anoia and the Barcelona-Vallès metropolitan lines, as well as the Lleida-La Pobla de Segur line. In the mountain area, FGC handles the La Molina, the Montserrat line (the funiculars of Santa Cova and Sant Joan, and the Montserrat rack train), along with the Vall de Núria and the La Molina lines.

The metropolitan lines run in the urban area around the city of Barcelona, as well as the outlying areas and the suburbs. One broad width line connects Barcelona with Sant Cugat, Sabadell, and Terrassa, and another metric width line connects Barcelona with Martorell, Igualada and Manresa. Passengers can travel to Reina Elisenda, Av Tibidabo, Terrassa, Sabadell, Sant Cugat and U. Autonoma from Barcelona via Catalunya.

FGC runs bus services which provide comfortable travel in and around Barcelona city. Along with efficient transportation, FGC also offers very reasonable fares. You can get seasonal passes along with cards with 10 journeys if you are planning to travel to more than one zone. You can also avail of the recreational and tourism tickets for Rack train and funiculars.

FGC conducts many tourism visits, including trips to La Molina ski resort and the Vall de Nuria Mountains which is accessible only by rack train. You can also travel by steam locomotive to historical places.
