Getting to Spain

Spain has flights from most European cities, with international airports located at Madrid, Málaga,Valencia, Seville, Granada, Barcelona, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela, Almería and Alicante. Long haul flights and daily trans-Atlantic flights.

The principal terminal for Andalucía and the Costa del Sol is Malaga, while some international flights are also received at Almería, Seville, Jerez de la Frontera and Gibraltar. There are numerous bargain and charter flights to all destinations during the summer, but high-season flights can be crowded.

Spain has an extensive rail network which makes direct journeys to many European cities possible from Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona, though tickets are only marginally cheaper than flying and there can be a change of carriages at the border. Trains
run from Barcelona to Nice several times a day from Estació Sants, and overnight trains go from Madrid and San Sebastian to Lisbon. The quickest trains are the AVE.

Ferry services connect Spain directly with the UK and Morocco. The Balearic Islands ferries sail from Barcelona and Valencia..

There are regular bus services from Madrid and Estació del Nord in Barcelona for France, while buses also run frequently from Seville to the Algarve and other destinations in Portugal. Buses are the cheapest way to travel.
