The Ginger and Chili is an exciting restaurant which provides good quality and innovative Szechuan dishes in a very modern and stylish restaurant. Staff are quiet and attentive and the ambience is very bright and 21st Century, with a good atmosphere.
The restaurant’s modern style is shown by the fact that it is keen to advertise that it does not use MSG and it only uses pure vegetable oil in cooking. It’s a healthy take on Szechuan food.
The range of menus is extensive, with various specials being on offer, so you can choose from a whole host of menus starting at $6.95 and ranging in price up to $9.95 for lunch. The dinner menu is also available at a range of prices and you can choose a set menu or to have an a la carte dinner. Even then prices are not extortionate with many dishes being available for under $10. Even the ‘banquet type’ meals are very good value at under $90 for 8 people.
The mainstays of Chinese cuisine are all here, with Beef in Oyster Sauce and Sweet and Sour Chicken. However, the Szechuan influence is undeniable. With many of the dishes being served ‘Szechuan’ style, which gives this restaurant a real edge on some of the many others in the City.
Vegetarians will also be pleased to learn that there is a section of the menu which is ‘vegetarian specials’ and offers a good selection of dishes, some of which are very traditional, others slightly more adventurous, such as ‘stir fried Buddha style’ vegetables.
Children are made welcome and despite its popularity, booking is not always required.
