Geography Australia
The first thing that you need to know about Australia is that it is big, and I mean big! It is of course an island which is set between the two great oceans the Pacific and the Indian to the south of Indonesia. It is the sixth largest country in the world and is more than four thousand kilometres across.
The inhabitants mostly reside in the coastal areas as the interior is very hot and most parts are barren desert. There is a large mountain range extending from north to south down the east coast, this separates the coastal areas from the inland bush. From Gladstone in Australia to the Torres Strait runs The Great Barrier Reef some two thousand kilometres.
Australia has some flora and fauna unique to the country. There are over seven hundred species of the Eucalyptus alone plus the unusual bottlebrush, banksias, waratahs, wattle and paperbarks.
Looking for dangerous animals – Come to Australia! The Brown Tiger, Copperhead and Death Adder are just a few deadly snakes to worry about. Great care must also be taken near water in Australia where there may be fresh water crocodiles or the very dangerous salt water variety. Spiders like the Funnel Web and the Redback also have the capability to make your holiday in Australia a very memorable one.
Less dangerous and worth seeing are the kangaroos, emus, echidna, platypus, koala and possums. Parrots, kookaburras and cockatoos abound. There are more than five hundred national parks in Australia where all these wonders can be found. For a great variety of everything that is exciting and visually stunning in the natural world Australia is very hard to beat.
