Like most Western European cities, air travel to Stockholm has become less expensive over the years, due to the arrival of no-frills, discount airlines. By far the most prominent low-cost carrier serving Stockholm is Sterling Airlines, based in Copenhagen. For example, Sterling connects Copenhagen with Stockholm and tickets during the summer months start at approximately €12 for a one-way ticket, excluding taxes.

Sterling Airlines also connects Stockholm with an array of other European cities and airports, such as London Gatwick, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Edinburgh, Nice, Nottingham and Rome, as well as a few seasonal destinations. A one-way ticket from London-Gatwick to Stockholm can be as low as ₤30, excluding taxes, during the summer season. The key is to book your ticket at least one month in advance, as prices do increase as your proposed departure date nears.

In addition to Sterling, another low-cost carrier that operates out of Arlanda is Germany’s Air Berlin. Air Berlin connects Stockholm with Berlin, Zurich, Stuttgart, and Palma de Mallorca. One-way tickets from Arlanda to Berlin-Tegel start at €99, excluding taxes, during the summer months. Although Air Berlin tends to cost slightly more than most other discount carriers, a major difference is that some on-board services are offered free of charge. For example, passengers on all flights are served complimentary light meals and non-alcoholic beverages.
