Found in the southwestern part of France is the city of Rennes and if you happen to be staying in the city you may want to look into renting a car hire. Rennes is home to the Cathedral with the two towers from the Cathedral Saint-Pierre. Rennes is known as the city of arts and culture and there are two local museums, the Musée de Bretagne and the Musée des Beaux Arts. Due to the fire in Rennes in 1720 much of the city was damaged but there was one part that escaped the fire and that is The Old Town.
The Cathedral found in Rennes also has two towers that were recently part of the Cathedral Saint-Pierre towers that took 57 years to finish. The original cathedral for the towers was partially ruined by the fire in 1720. The present-day cathedral is the third church to stand on that particular site.
Two local museum in the city are both housed by the same building. The Musée de Bretagne features displays that show a great insight into Brittany’s past history. The other museum, The Musée des Beaux Arts features a large collection of various arts from the 14th century until the 21st century. Either museum will be a great way to spend your day and learn a little bit along the way.
The Old Town is a part of the city that escaped the horrible fire of 1720, after the fire the city was re-built with many canals and wide avenues. The Old Town has mostly pedestrians walking about and features many bars, boutiques and crêperies. The western brink of the Old Town starts at what is left of the 15th century city gate and will provide you with a great day if you choose to spend your time there.
