Bedford International Kite Festival

The Bedford International Kite Festival is touted to be the second largest international festival in Bedford. This must-see festival is a colorful event that attracts some of the best kite flyers and makers from across the globe.

During the festival, you will be able to witness among the best stunt kites, giant parafoils; other types of spectacular kites as well as aerobatic teams fill the skies with vibrant color and great movements. The festival is also the perfect venue for kiting aficionados to see a number of the most famous personalities in the kiting world. They come from the UK, China, Europe and Japan, among others.

Japanese kite master Mikio Toki is expected to be among the guest flyers in the 6th Bedford International Kite Festival this 2008. This Japanese kite icon, who has been to Bedford once before, is known all across the globe for his gracious hand-made kites.

Other guests include Swiss kite flyer Iqbal Husain, who is known for his centipede kites as well as for his splendid train and egg-laying chicken kites. The kite-display team from Holland, who is renowned for its multi-faceted kites and appliqué graphics, is also expected to attend as well as musician Jimmy Sampsone who is known as a great constructor of kites in the silhouettes of famous jazz musicians.

A kite-making workshop will also be hosted by UK guest Malcolm Goodman and the White Horse Kite Flyers from Swindon in the festival marquee. Last year, they made a total of 1,000 kites.
