Festival For Older People Every Month Of May
Every Month of May
There are many festivals that are held in the Bedford area every year and among these is the Festival for Old People. This festival is an apt activity for this group of people who contributed to the society during their younger days.
Known originally as the Exhibition of Services for Older People, the festival was started to supply a forum where advises and information can be gained by older people pertaining to the services and benefits they should be getting. Voluntary as well as statutory agencies have great roles in this festival or exhibition.
The first festival was held in May 2002 and this was organized by the County Council of Bedfordshire, with the participation and cooperation of the Borough Council and Guild House of Bedford. With more than 1,000 participants and having gained very positive feedbacks, the festival was declared very successful, thus leading to the holding of the ones after it, until now.
The success of the Festival for Older People has increased over the years and has brought in more associations participating in the event. Among these associations are the Primary Care Trusts, the Age Concern, the Environment Agency, the Alzheimer’s Society and the Pension Service, among others.
Because of the success of the festival, they are now held several times in a year and in different venues. Although these events are just smaller in size compared to the initial ones organized, they are still well-attended. This festival also provides older people with a venue to be able to interact with each other.
